The Alfa Romeo 105 and 115 series coupés are a range of cars made by the Italian manufacturer Alfa Romeo from 1963 until 1977,. An in-house prototype of the 1954 Giulietta coupe had been prepared with the help of stylist Mario Boano of Ghia. Ghia was in the midst of troubles between Boano and chief engineer Luigi Segre, so Alfa Romeo turned to Bertone to complete the program. Alfa Romeo contracted Carrozzeria Bertone to build three of these design studies over their 1900 Sprint chassis, and the results were christened Berlina Aerodinamica Tecnica (BAT) 5, 7 and 9. Bertone was commissioned by Alfa Romeo in the early 1950s to produce a series of striking concept vehicles designed to explore the effects of drag on a vehicle. It was all very space-age and took place at the same time as Carrozzeria Touring made the Disco Volante ('flying saucer'). Bertone's Franco Scaglione masterminded the design.
